Bad Weekend

I ate very good meals this weekend but ate one too many unhealthy snacks in between meals. (A Cinnabon!) That is an old habit that will be HARD to break, it will take time. I am not going to expect change overnight. But I am not going to be too easy on myself either. The weekends are hardest due to easier/more access to junk food.Next week end I will do better.

Cereal Got it Right

I LOVE the new very highly visible and easy to read nutritional info  on Kellog’s cereals now suddenly!!! (see the top right corner of box)

Kellogg's® Low Fat Granola With Raisins

and a close up:

Use GDAs to Build a Breakfast (new window)

I dont have a fave cereal so I just looked till I found the lowest cal one that looked edible, and I bought that…I didnt even have to pick up every box off the shelf to read the label, it was like it had an EZ button!

I sure hope more foods jump on this band wagon. If fat content and calories are right on front of the box, so it is EASY for even the “barely concious” to choose the healthiest option, then it seems like more food producers will have to find ways to cut calories and fat in order to compete because many people, like me, will just pick the lowest cal or lowest fat option on many items.

I LOVE IT! Making dieting easier!

It seems there are more an more tasty low cal and low fat options every day. It really is making it easy for me to diet …SWEET!

YUMMY MUMMY

QUOTED: “Oh, Texas. For shame. It is bad enough that 66% of us are overweight or obese, but now we learn our kids are really out of shape. Woefully out of shape. Only 30% of third graders could pass a fitness test, and fewer than 10% of high school seniors could pass it. Not Good. And before you start blaming the schools for your kid’s terrible fitness, studies suggest that our kids’ body mass indexes (BMI) increase over the summer. Which means change needs to start at home.”

I am so glad I am making better food choices for my daughter and myself.  My husband sent me this article in a link with the email subject: “Looks like your doing a good job with pumpkin. ”

IT FEELS SO GOOD TO BE VALIDATED finally. I have been asking my husband and the grandma’s to feed my 15 month old better food choices and smaller portions for several months. I was getting resistance. “She is crying - She’s still hungry- feed her more” “Oh a little cookie or two won’t kill her” “Babies only/always stop eating when they are full” “Its not her weight preventing her from walking (at 14 months)” and she was getting fed her meal, then begging for bites from grown ups who eat slower than her/after her ALOT.

Good luck to all you who are trying to set a better example for your children. It is a very noble reason to change your eating habits for life. Loosing weight is a welcome side effect!

Not so ordinary fruit salada recipe

Yes I meant to put salada - it sounded fancier to me than just salad! LOL

The greatest fruit salad recipe for when you are tired of the same old same old:

*6-8 servings

1 pinepple cut into pieces, 1 cup blueberries, 1 cup blackberries, 3 cups strawberries halved and 2 sliced bananas, wash well, mix with 2 packets Splenda for added sweetness if desired.

YUM!

Make low cal dressing last twice as long as a dip

If you get South Beach Living non fat Ranch dressing, which has 50 cals for 2 tbsp. You can double the amount and add only 16 calories by adding 2 tbsp plain non fat yogurt and mix well. This still is very flavorful,a nd great for a dip for veggies!

Here is my yummy low cal lunch today:

Ranch Dressing, South Beach Living, Light, Non Fat 1 2 tablespoon 50 0 11 0
Celery, raw 0.75 1 cup chopped 12 0.1 2.2 0.5

How do you loose 5 lbs in your sleep?

Tell me how - when I weighed last night before I went to bed, I was 280, still no weight loss After Dieting Since July 1. ….
Then when I wake up this morning and the scale said 275.

HOW?

I got back on it about 5 times to be sure it wasnt mistaken! How do you loose 5 lbs while you sleep??? I dont have a TOM anymore so it is NOT that.

Well, if it still says 275 tonight, then I will be able to enter my first weight loss in my ticker! 5 lbs! YAY…well lets not celebrate too soon…LOL

A good balanced day

Well I like the way I ate today alot better than yesterday. Low cal diet feels alot easier, more natural, more healthy, to me (than low carb I tried yesterday).  I ate less snacks today than previously too.  And I only ate the  2 snacks when I was here at my Food Journal, and I suddenly realized I had only eat 1100 calories today! LOL- I thought, that means I can eat a few more calories and still loose! Well not a great theory I know, but hey…gimme a break! I am actually doing really good. I am getting ready to go swimming for 30 mins to an hour.  And I said I wasnt going to exarcise at all when I began this diet July 1st!  YAY for me :P  Any way I had abnout 60% carbs, 20% fat amd 25% protein. It felt good.

Good night folks! and good luck! Remember:

Is this much fat ok?

I tried to have a low carb day. I was doing real good, and even ended with a 12% carb intake, sounds good right? But I messed up at the end of the day. I fetl it would be ok to eat some low carb snacks. Alot of them. Stupid I know. When I entered the facts in my food journal, I saw the bad results.  Having nearly half of my intake be FAT doesnt seem good to me (42%). Is that really any better than having it be half  carbs but less fats? If I had stayed on my Low CAL version of my diet, I would have had less calories for the day overall but more carbs… which is better? I am so confused….I know I should not have had the snacks….but if I do have a snack, is a low carb high fat one  any better than a hi carb low fat one? Or are both just bad bad bad?!

Maybe if I go exercise I will feel better!

A low carb day

Today is going ot be a low carb day. My goal is less than 25% carbs.

I should not have had the milk for breakfast! But I can still prevail.
I brougt a very low carb salad with me to work for lunch.
I will drive to the park nearby and eat it at a picnic table. I love doing that :).

Inspiration from another blogger

http://foxyladyohya.buddyslim.com/2008/07/05/weight-loss-information-and-tips-for-getting-started/

I wanted to post this as a reminder for myself (from the above link):

Unless you are excited to be following a very specific diet and exercise plan, do not try and change too much too fast. If you have been eating poorly and not exercising, both your body and your mind will have a lot of adjusting to do.

All the sugar and fat were actually quite enjoyable, and sitting on the couch didn’t feel too bad, either. If you try and change everything too quickly the odds are greater that you will feel bad, get discouraged, and give up. So be patient.

A time will come when a healthy snack will taste as good as the junk food you felt bad about eating, and you will look forward to your regular exercise.
